thought i post to say ive finally managed to get my air con working and hope its some help to other galaxy owners

i did a vag com check on my gal and it came up air con pressure sensor fault , intermitent which from reading many posts on the subject is fairly common.

i then took it to quick fit who do a service where if they cant re charge your air con for any reason they dont charge you . they tried and failed but did tell me there was no leaks on the system so is well worth doing as its free to find out .

next i managed to locate the said pressure sensor , its behind the horn at the front drivers side of the car , you can just about see it through the lower grille on a t bar. when i removed it , theres no need de gas the system as its just a valve i noticed it was corroded and split . these sensor s are 60 pounds from the dealer which i did nt fancy paying so after a drive to the local scrap yard i managed to get one for the princely sum of 2 pounds! dont worry if theres no galaxy s there , mines a mk 2 03, i got one off a vw passat . just check anything vw audi and you should strike gold.

finally refitted sensor ,cleared fault on vag com and hey presto lovely air con. the only thing i cant work out is that it was fully charged even though its never worked since ive owned the car which is about 18 months so im guessing it never worked for the previous owner. id like to think that qiuck fit have somehow unwittingly charged it for me for nothing, which is why it might be worth taking it along while its broken.

anyway i hope this is some help to at least one galaxy owner out there as ive spent the last 18 months trailing the internet and just running into dead ends . the hardest bit of the job is finding the sensor but it is there , just keep looking behind the horn and you will find it. cheers.

Yes, they just stick it on an automated charging station for the regas. It removes the existing gas and oil by deep vacuum, then checks for leaks by checking to see if the vacuum is maintained. If the machine thinks all is well, the system is regassed and hopefully everything is fixed... at KwikFit, if it still doesn't work, you don't pay.

Any chance you can take a photo of the sensor in situ or removed (camera phone and www.photobucket.com)

id struggle to take a photo to tell u the truth pal , im not that good with electrical gismo s but there is a photo of it on this site . i googled ford galaxy air con pressure sensor and managed to find it.just keep searching and u should manage to find it. like i said in my post find the horn on your car , its right at the front of the car on the drivers side behind the fog light. if u then get under the car and just look past the horn just above it u should see the cable that runs into the sensor . unplug the cable and you ll just need a 17mm spanner to remove sensor.

my gal dosent have a splash guard underneath it, never did when i bought it but looking at the state of the sensor i think that might be the reason why it broke. (corrosion). my galaxys a 19tdi 130 on an 03 plate but i cant see there been much difference between the different diesel engines regards possition of this sensor. anyway let me know how u go on and the best of luck.

as for going to quick fit, if this sensor is your problem i strongly reccomend going there first for a free refill . once id cleared the sensor on vag com i tested the air con pressure from the port and it was reading nearly double what it should but when i turned the air con on it dropped to the prescribed charge. i guess they must force the gas in then let it sit in half the system before they turn on the air con to fully circulate it.

so in theory you could disable your air con, go to kwikfit for a free regas then once back home enable the air con again??
